After 6 months, and spending over $47,000 dollars, I had to threaten to sue Mr. Dixon and Woodworks just to get them to finish the project, This was after he met me at my house telling my that I owed him more money for work they had yet to complete.

In July 2006, I hired Ed Dixon and Woodworks to finish my basement and add a bathroom. I accepted their bid even though it was the higher of the bids with the understanding that I was paying more but I was expecting to get great work. Their portfolio was very impressive.

This for me was the stereotypical nightmare contractor experience. It was however, a great learning experience, albeit a $50,000.00 dollar learning experience.

Their portfolio looked very impressive, unfortunately my experience with Ed Dixon and Woodworks Restoration was awful.

In the end, I had to hire another company several years later to redo my basement yet again, just to fix the errors and mistakes that Mr. Dixon and Woodworks left behind.

According to the contract the job was to be completed in 5 months, however, Mr. Dixon assured me that it should not take much longer than 3 months.

To make matters worse, after it was finally done the work was terrible. I literally had walls in my basement that did not line up. The drywall tape was clearly visible. Walls and windows were never chalked and finished. The stairs had visible gaps in them where they were supposed to meet flush. I could have done a better job if I had simply done it by myself!

I hired them to finish a 1200 square foot basement and add a bathroom. We agreed on a $35,000, however I naively signed a "cost plus contract" (big mistake).
